Watch the Presentation here

FlexUIFramwork-Jeff Krueger
With the popularity of Flex growing so much lots of new projects are starting. As a company when you start your first Flex project there is a lot of overhead to just get started. This is not Flex's fault, this is just the case with any new technology. You will need a login page, so form of navigation, users, security, etc. Depending on prior commitment to architecture you might get lucky and have a decent backend, maybe even SOA model. But often times I find that is not even the case. So FlexUIFramework sets out to make creating a new Flex project fast and easy. It gives you a login, navigation, users, security all within a nice Cairngorm based Flex framework. It also has a Java SOA backend to it, and uses Hibernate.

You do not have to use the Java backend if you don't want to. The use of Hibernate is key because the reverse engineering feature it has. With that we have created several templates that can generate the complete Java and Flex code based on you database tables that will do basic CRUD. This gives you the point at which you can start customizing for your own business needs.

During this talk we will demo the framework as well as create a brand new set of screens to show the framework in action.

Flex on Rails-Tony Hillerson, Daniel Wanja
Daniel and Tony have recently released a book describing how to bring two technologies that they love together: Flex and Rails. They'll be giving an overview of what that means and then diving into code to show how it works.

Hands on Introduction to Merapi
Adam Flater, Merapi lead architect, gave RMAUG members a sneak preview of the upcoming alpha release of Merapi.

What's Merapi you ask? Merapi is a bridge between applications written in Java and those running in and created for Adobe AIR. Merapi has been designed to run on a user's machine, along with an Adobe AIRtmapplication and provides direct bridge between the Adobe AIRtm framework and Java, exposing the power and overall capabilities of the user's operating system, including 3rd party hardware devices.

Merapi Project: Request to join the alpha!
http://www.merapiproject.net/

Watch the Presentation: http://realeyes.acrobat.com/p98327875/

Dreamweaver, Fireworks, and Acrobat.com Beta Overview
Amanda Johnson, RMAUG manager and part of the RealEyes Media team, showed off some of the exciting new features and enhancements in the DW, FW, and Acrobat.com beta releases.

Presentation Links:
Dreamweaver Beta: http://labs.adobe.com/technologies/dreamweavercs4/
Fireworks Beta: http://labs.adobe.com/technologies/fireworkscs4/
Acrobat.com: https://www.acrobat.com/
Adobe Kuler: http://kuler.adobe.com/

View the Slides: (Via Acrobat.com)
https://share.acrobat.com/adc/...49be-a89c-2e8fd437c720

Watch the Presentation:
http://realeyes.acrobat.com/p58295736/

Adobe AIR: Windows, Menus, and the System Tray
Jun Heider presented a session from the upcoming FlexManiacs conference: "Adobe AIR: Windows, Menus, and the System Tray". During this presentation, Jun went into details on Window, give you ideas on how to implement menus, and work with the Taskbar and System Tray. In addition, he demoed some AIR applications, including this one:

http://www.iheartair.com/?p=118

And, to answer the question asked at the meeting, you still need Flash IDE to compile a swf from an FLA. However, if you're spending a lot of time in alternate editors such as the eclipse based FDT you can streamline your process a little using some ANT script wizardry...

Here's a couple links for those of you that are interested:

http://www.dopelogik.com/documents/actionscript_ant/

http://www.mail-archive.com/fl...leaf.com/msg37273.html

Real World Application Development: Factory Labs
The team from factory labs went over the process they used to develop the Flash site for Iron Man and Adobe.
