Watch the Presentation here

FlexUIFramwork-Jeff Krueger
With the popularity of Flex growing so much lots of new projects are starting. As a company when you start your first Flex project there is a lot of overhead to just get started. This is not Flex's fault, this is just the case with any new technology. You will need a login page, so form of navigation, users, security, etc. Depending on prior commitment to architecture you might get lucky and have a decent backend, maybe even SOA model. But often times I find that is not even the case. So FlexUIFramework sets out to make creating a new Flex project fast and easy. It gives you a login, navigation, users, security all within a nice Cairngorm based Flex framework. It also has a Java SOA backend to it, and uses Hibernate.

You do not have to use the Java backend if you don't want to. The use of Hibernate is key because the reverse engineering feature it has. With that we have created several templates that can generate the complete Java and Flex code based on you database tables that will do basic CRUD. This gives you the point at which you can start customizing for your own business needs.

During this talk we will demo the framework as well as create a brand new set of screens to show the framework in action.

Flex on Rails-Tony Hillerson, Daniel Wanja
Daniel and Tony have recently released a book describing how to bring two technologies that they love together: Flex and Rails. They'll be giving an overview of what that means and then diving into code to show how it works.

Now, that I have your attention, check out The Flex Cookbook on the Adobe Website. They are in need of some insightful entries to fill up the cookbook, and have solicited Adobe User Groups for help.

Now, the good stuff ... if you make a post to the cookbook between now and January 31, 2009, you could be eligible to win a copy of Flex Builder 3, and (gasp) perhaps even Creative Suite 4. Here are the details:

Any group that can get 5 or more cookbook posts contributed by their membership is eligible to raffle off a copy of FlexBuilder 3 Professional among the people who contributed the posts.

Any group that drives 10 or more posts during the submission period will also get a copy of CS4 to raffle among the contributing members. It can be any version outside the Master Collection.

Every post counts as a chance to win. So if RMAUG Member A makes 4 posts and RMAUG Member B makes 2 posts, RMAUG would qualify for the raffle copy since we hit the 5 post requirement. Then Member A would get 4 entries in the draw and Member B would get 2. The more posts you contribute, the better chance you should have to win.

If you decide to write a cookbook entry, please the URL to your cookbook entry to this thread so that everyone can see how many we have as a group. Or, you more anonymous folks can email us at rmaug@rmaug.com.

Remember: Deadline is January 31, 2009
