Forum FAQ

How do I join the RMAUG forums?
To register for the forum, click on the "Join RMAUG Community Forums" link in the left hand navigation. You'll fill out a form and, voila, you're a member. Of course, we'd like you to participate in the group at our monthly meetings, too. We'll send you friendly meeting reminders via email to keep you in the loop.

Can I subscribe to the forum via email?
Yes, you can! All forum users can subscribe to categories via a digest subscription. Instead of receiving an individual email for each new message and/or new topic posted in a subscribed topic and/or category, users subscribed via the digest option will receive one email per day, which will provide details of the new messages that have been posted to all subscribed categories. At this time, users cannot receive individual forum posts via email. To receive individual post notifications, please subscribe via RSS.

Can I subscribe to the forum via Twitter?
RMAUG does tweet! Top-level forum posts are included in our Twitter feed. Go ahead and follow us: http://www.twitter.com/rmaug.

Can I subscribe to the forum via RSS?
Yes, you can! You can choose to subscribe to individual categories (see "How do I subscribe to an individual forum category below), or you can choose to subscribe to an aggregation of all forum RSS feeds by subscribing to our consolidated feed. To get additional RSS feed options, visit our Feeds Page.

How do I subscribe to a forum category?
To subscribe by email: In your profile (accessible in the gray navigation bar under the RMAUG Community header), under the Personal Options tab, you can specify which of the listed categories you wish to subscribe to by pressing down on the CTRL key and clicking on the desired categories. To cancel a subscription, return to the Profile and unclick the category.

To subscribe by RSS: From the home screen (accessible in the gray navigation bar under the RMAUG Community header), click on the RSS icon next to the category name. You'll get updates to your RSS reader program of choice by using this URL. To get additional RSS feed options, visit our Feeds Page.

What is a topic?
A topic is a subject of discussion that appears in a category. A topic can also be called a “thread”. Topics consist of the originating message and all its replies. Multiple topics can be created within a category.

How do I create a new topic?
To create a topic, enter the category in which the new topic will reside. In the main navigational bar (gray bar under the RMAUG Community header), click on the “new topic” button. A new window will appear that requests for specific information to be provided, including the title, topic summary, and the message that will appear in the new topic. All required fields are marked with an asterisk.

When the necessary information has been provided, click on the “Preview” button to preview your message before it is published, “Cancel” to cancel the operation, or “Post Message” to create the topic and post the message. Your can also create a poll in your topic by clicking on the “Add Poll” prior to clicking on “Post Message”.

What is a message?
A message is a form of communication sent by one user to other forum users. It can be the originating message that starts a new topic or it can be a response to an existing message within a topic. A message is also called a “post”.

How do I reply to a message?
Replying to a message can be accomplished in a variety of ways. To post a quick reply to a message, you can use the Quick Reply text field, which appears at the bottom of the thread, or through the Topic Tools menu. This feature is used to send a response to the last posted message within a topic.

However, you can also reply to any message that is viewable in the topic or thread. The user can use the “Reply” button, which appears at the right of the message. Or, click on the “Quote” link and the body of the reply message will quote the message to which you are replying. A “Replying to a Message” window will appear. Simply enter the text of the message and click the Reply to Topic button. If you haven’t subscribed to the topic, youcan click on the checkbox to do so.

Do you have another question?
If your question isn't answered here, please review the forum help section. Just click help in the gray navigation bar under the RMAUG Community header. Or, email the RMAUG Manager at rmaug@rmREMOVEaug.com
